These figures, dictate the text that corresponds to the most basic programming language called Assembler. This code that you hear, is a fragment of the one that is used so that any electronic device can load a text. In this way I illustrate a communication by means of text, the most common one between the person and the device.

In the room there are two 2mm glass plates, which receive the two projections. The glass has a matt vinyl layer attached to it that gives it greater resistance and retains the projection. The vinyl in the face area is totally transparent, this makes that this area does not retain image and you can see a real transparency. To leave in suspension the plates are used two nylon threads so that the plates can be bordered.

– I linx / Portrait of communication
This photographic collection is the outcome of research into the changing processes affecting channels of social communication. I have approached this project, Ilinx, from a portrait angle, focussing on how the human figure disengages from expression while using current forms of communication.

From the moment behaviour and social conduct are centred on a screen, once translated into the virtual realm, physical features and gestures appear as largely useless entities, abandoned and condemned.   Reality itself seems a great body suspended, absorbed by the virtual world where gestures and physical expression are substituted by light language.

The title is a reference to the classification of games made by Roger Caillois from the work “Man, Play and Games” and as Jean Baudrillard relates to the latter with “The Other Himself” written in reference to the excess of communication:

“There is in effect a state of fascination and vertigo linked to this obscene delirium of communication. A singular form of pleasure perhaps, but aleatory and dizzying. If we follow Roger Caillois in his classification of games (it’s as good as any other) – games of expression (mimicry), games of competition (agon), games of chance (alea), games of vertigo (ilynx) – the whole tendency of our contemporary “culture” would lead us from a relative disappearance of forms of expression and competition (as we have remarked at the level of objects) to the advantages of forms of risk and vertigo. The latter no longer involve games of scene, mirror, challenge and duality; they are, rather, ecstatic, solitary and narcissistic. The pleasure is no longer one of manifestation, scenic and aesthetic, but rather one of pure fascination, aleatory and psychotropic.” (translated by John Johnston)

With this in mind I created these portraits rigorously, with strict serialization, resembling a string of digital impulses.  In the portraits the face becomes dissipated by the light, the body fading into the darkness. Through this the excessive transparency of the universe of communication is emphasised, leaving behind the heaviness of the physical, the density of the material.
