ILINX

Arthur Batut and other anthropologists of the late nineteenth century tried to make an atlas with physiognomic data and archetypical records, photography was for them a tool for a new science of human nature. Batut specifically made what he called «composite portraits» by superimposing different negatives of faces in search of an archetype. In DTP, imitating a composite portrait, he shows the archetype of the new forms of identity adopted by means of telecommunication. A community of faceless people, an incomprehensible and dehumanized text, is discovered in the confusing superimposition of the transparent sheets.  The book is like a robot portrait of that individual who is insignificant in the immensity of the data, confused in the excess of transparency and absent in his gesture.
